How To: Do A Smokey Eye

The fashion industry is not just all about clothes – it is about accessorizing as well.  Accessories are very important to an outfit as a whole, and key accessory #1 is MAKEUP!  Makeup completes the look, and one of the most popular makeup looks is the smokey eye.

The Smokey eye is typically thought of as grey and black eye shadow – but – you can actually do a smokey eye with any dark color!  You can use: brown, purple, green, teal, copper, etc.

So to achieve the smokey look here are 4 simple tips:

1.  Eye Prep: Apply a light shade of concealer to the under eye area, and all over the top lid.

2. Eye Shadow: With an eye-shadow brush, apply a dark shadow in the outside corner/crease of the eye and smudge (either by brush or finger)

3. Eyeliner: Line the top lid with black liner, paying close attention to going into the lash line itself.

If you have small eyes apply liner starting from the middle of the under eye to the outside of the eye. If your eyes are large, then you can line from corner to corner – Liquid eyeliner is suggested.

TIP: If you are using liquid liner you can place dots on the lash line and then follow the dots to get a perfectly straight line. I knew those connect the dot puzzles I did as a kid would come in handy some day!

4. Final Touch: Next apply a lighter shadow in a neutral tone with a flatter eye brush over the entire lid, concentrating on the inner part of the lid/tear ducts. And last, but not least, add mascara!!
TIP: Use a neutral shimmer in the tear duct to open up the eyes and make them look brighter.

The best thing about the Smokey eye is that you can easily transition from a “day” to “night” look!  Just make sure the darker color in the outer corner/crease is lighter and little more smudged, and then when you are ready to go out on the town at night just make it a bit more dramatic by making it darker!

Don’t become a fashion “don’t” – wear the ultimate accessory!
