This year my spring break was cut a little short. I went back to school a few days early to volunteer at the annual SEU Leadership Forum. Every year The Forum is packed with famous speakers, and in the past we have had former president George W. Bush, and Condoleezza Rice as big names, but this year was different – THIS year Tim Tebow was the headline speaker!
Now, I will admit, I was not a die hard Tebow fan when I first found out he was coming – mainly because I am not a Gator fan. However, my feelings towards this man quickly changed. My mom read his book she told me all about how great he was, so I gained a little bit of interest – then I googled him! What I found was incredible. He is truly a unique man of God and is something really special to our society today.
As time grew closer and closer to the forum, I grew more and more excited to see him – and hopefully have the opportunity to meet him.
It was finally here – March 8, 2012, Lakeland, Fl. – 6:45 am all of the volunteers gathered together to look over the schedule – what we see? “4:45 Tebow Photo Session” – ummm, WHAT?!?! I have never seen so many girls (and guys) more excited! – Here is the bad news – the photo session was only for people who bought tickets to the dinner he was speaking at later that night – not the volunteers. The air was full of disappointment.
Later on, one of my friends came up to me and whispered in my ear “Someone gave me 4 tickets to give away to friends for the banquet, and I am taking you” – my heart just about fell to my toes. I was going to meet Tim Tebow at the photo session.
I quickly changed out of my loud, red volunteer t-shirt into a nice dress, blazer, and heels and headed down to the photo session. As we walked in we were told only red tickets were allowed photos – and I had a black ticket…. Never have I been SO let down!
So I go to the dinner banquet and listen to him speak, falling even more and more in love with him and his heart for God, and then me and some friends have an idea – paparazzi him! When he walked off stage we knew he was going out the back door to the side of the building, so we snuck out of the banquet room and ended up outside right by his car – where he just so happened to be walking to.
I then preceded to ask him for a picture, shook his hand (for the second time today) and watched him drive away. It is definitely a night I will never forget! I will always remember the people who blessed me on this wonderful spring break.
This week I am posting a guest blogger. Elizabeth Telg has a wonderful blog that I read frequently. One of her latest posts is definitely something all girls have a love/hate relationship with – bathing suits! And any fashionista knows that bathing suits are not all about flaunting your bod – they are a fashion statement! And if you have been keeping up with your spring fashion magazines, you have seen that modest really is hottest this spring! Vintage one pieces and two pieces with high-waisted bottoms, are so in right now! So take a read and then go buy one!
Modest is hottest… While some might not think this, modest is for sure in! Swim suits are exposing less cleavage and becoming more old-school and I do NOT mind this one bit!! Here are some styles for all you ladies who are looking to rock a super-cute suit over spring break!
Spring is finally here – so that means shorts, skirts, shaved legs, bikinis and – manicures? Yes! Manicured nails are a fun and easy way of spicing up any outfit – especially with bright colors!
This season the popular colors seem to be variations of pinks and corals and as always, shades of turquoise! My favorite turquoise color is OPI Mermaid Tears from the Pirates of the Caribbean collection.
Similar colors include:
- Essie: Turquoise & Caicos
- Essie: Beach Bum Blue
- OPI: Thanks a WindMillion
If you are more into shades of pink, these are my favorites:
- OPI: Suzi & the Lifeguard
- OPI: You’re a Pisa Work
- OPI: Passion
So once you have picked out your favorite spring color, it is time to do the “cure” part of the manicure.
- File your nails – be sure nails are completely dry first, or your nails may split
- Treat Cuticles – you can do this by soaking nails in warm, soapy water and then push them back with a nail stone
- Apply Basecoat – this will keep the nails from yellowing – My favorite is OPI base coat
- Apply two coats of color – allow about 2 minutes in-between coats
- Apply Top Coat – My favorite top coat is OPI RapiDry – It dries the nails to the touch in 60 seconds
- Fix any “uh oh’s” – Use a Q-tip with nail polish remover on it to gently brush off the excess nail polish from the skin
TIP: OPI has a fabulous new product out called Drip Dry – this product is AMAZING! You simply follow this manicure guide, and after applying the top coat take the dropper and drop one to two drops on each nail. Nails dry to the touch in 60 seconds, and completely dry in five minutes.
So now you are ready for spring! – Well, your nails at least.
It has always been my dream to be in (what I’d like to think of) the “land of milk of honey” -aka New York City- during the famed Fashion Week. NYC Fashion Week is an annual occurence in February and this is where they reveal the upcoming Fall colors and styles as well as new Spring trends.
Spring Break is just around the corner, so what better to do during that time than build your spring wardrobe?! So what is this spring’s trend? FLORALS! Florals, florals, and more florals. Also, brights! So if you want to be fashion forward, mix the two together!
The key to creating high fashion spring outfits is buying key pieces which includes:
- Bright colored skirt
- Floral top
- Floral dress
- Striped Shirt
- Polkadot Shirt/skirt
- Solid pink, yellow, emerald, blush, peach, etc. shirts
- Pastel or bright colored blazers
- Printed flats
- “Loud” jewelry
Simple pieces like these can worm miltiple times in one week and worn in completely different ways. Here are some examples of Spring 2012 fashion.
The fashion industry is not just all about clothes – it is about accessorizing as well. Accessories are very important to an outfit as a whole, and key accessory #1 is MAKEUP! Makeup completes the look, and one of the most popular makeup looks is the smokey eye.
So to achieve the smokey look here are 4 simple tips:
1. Eye Prep: Apply a light shade of concealer to the under eye area, and all over the top lid.
2. Eye Shadow: With an eye-shadow brush, apply a dark shadow in the outside corner/crease of the eye and smudge (either by brush or finger)
3. Eyeliner: Line the top lid with black liner, paying close attention to going into the lash line itself.
If you have small eyes apply liner starting from the middle of the under eye to the outside of the eye. If your eyes are large, then you can line from corner to corner – Liquid eyeliner is suggested.
TIP: If you are using liquid liner you can place dots on the lash line and then follow the dots to get a perfectly straight line. I knew those connect the dot puzzles I did as a kid would come in handy some day!
The best thing about the Smokey eye is that you can easily transition from a “day” to “night” look! Just make sure the darker color in the outer corner/crease is lighter and little more smudged, and then when you are ready to go out on the town at night just make it a bit more dramatic by making it darker!
Don’t become a fashion “don’t” – wear the ultimate accessory!
